Log 5: Entry 6

Patient: Man, female, adult
Symptoms: Dislocated finger, fractured finger
Treatment: Splint & pain relief
Meeting:

Miss Sol returned to allow me to finish treating her and set the fingers. The cause of injury, a punch against the wall during momentary anger.
When questioned about her reasons, I've learned that her problem is rooted deeper. I'll have to speak to her again another day.

Patient: Man, female, young adult
Symptoms: Pain in her side & swelling
Treatment: Surgery
Meeting: Will remain in my care for the next few days while recovering

A young woman arrived, barely an adult by the look of things, complaining about the pain that has not gone away for a while and has been getting worse. After questioning to eliminate possible causes, I thought the problem might be related to the kidney. When she was leaving, she was struck by pain, and she did not trust herself to return home. She was offered a bed to rest, but the pain seemed to grow.
I made a choice to take her to the barbershop and cut into her and get a proper look at the problem. I found that the tail of her colon was swollen twice its size and was
discoloured. I've removed the tail and preserved for further examination.
She's still pale and cold to the touch but breathing. I'll keep her under observation for the next coming days while her body recovers. A letter has been sent to her caretaker.

Fiontann came by while I was tending to miss Sol. I've informed him of miss Blackburrow's disinterest in meeting with him. Despite my thoughts, the matter didn't seem to bother him.
He has offered me to take another hunting trip, and I've been considering it. When things have calmed here, I may take him up on the offer to remove myself from things here.
I've suggested to invite Remdir along with us, Fiontann didn't object. I'll speak with the man later or notify him by a letter.

I stepped outside for a walk and found that master Maurr was standing by the wall once again. I inquired about his reasons, as I've seen him there more than once before. He explained that he's been keeping guard after what happened, despite no one asking him to do so.
No work should be gone unpaid, and we've agreed that I shall be considerate when it comes to the price of treatment for masters Yurri and Tumunir. While I've not heard from the latter, I did get a better understanding of the dwarven culture through master Maurr. I'll have to find time and place to speak with master Tumunir in private, now that I believe I understand the situation better.

Mister Leoffrith came by for his lesson regarding numbers. He seems able to understand quickly, and he knows the basics well. It was only the partial numbers that seemed to stop him, but after helping him understand their value, the man was eager to continue the calculations. The ledger will hopefully be less of a problem now. He seems like a good man, and it was good to see the excitement he found once he understood the problem. I'm uncertain whether he'll require my help again, but I've given him the offer to return. Whether it's for a visit so he may tell me his travel tales, or further help with his numbers or anything else.

Master Maddoct has gone to the Forsaken Inn to aid someone with a broken rib if I heard correctly. I'm not sure when he'll return. Ruevir has been of good help regarding the patient and seems more willing to help.
The words of miss Tamirra have stuck with me. She knew the risk of cutting her open, yet she didn't yell or beg. She didn't ask me to deliver any messages to loved ones or tell me of her regrets. I'm still not sure what to make of what she said, to be so willing to sacrifice herself if it meant for me to learn and aid others in the future. It was selfless.
