'A crown of gold spun silk lies   upon her forehead. With   eyes as sharp as the edge of a sword, yet kind as the morning sun, one could drown in their cerulean depths. She is tall as she is fair, and more graceful than the most elegant swan. The   soft petals of a rose lay in   place of her lips, crimson in   their likeness to the harvest   sun.'

This all describes Meriloth, as said by her dear friend Aruhir. Or well, maybe not in such poetic words. Or maybe he didn't say this at all.... One can dream, right?

Meriloth is striking, fair, and tall, carrying herself with an innate, graceful elegance. Her hair is a rich, warm golden-red, usually worn down in loose waves, though she will pin it up messily when deep in study or on the road. Her eyes are a sharp, cerulean blue.

She favors the vibrant fashions of Minas Tirith, wrapping herself in rich crimsons, golds, and soft silks. Her aesthetic is heavily tied to the roses of her birthplace, both in color palette and in the soft, romantic aura she projects. However, this elegance hides a practical edge. When traveling, she swaps silks for sturdy tunics, carries a strange, uniquely-forged sword (a parting gift from Aruhir), and wears a family heirloom ruby ring on her right hand.

Background

Born in the later years of the Third Age in Imloth Melui, the Valley of Roses, Meriloth lived a quiet, nurturing early life. Her mother was a healer in the Hall of the Gentle Hand, and her father, a retired knight, guarded their peaceful valley. It was on the roof of her childhood home, naming constellations with her father, that her passion for the stars was ignited.

Upon reaching adulthood, she moved to Minas Tirith to study under a master Astronomer. During her free time at The Splintered Shield tavern on the Soldier’s Tier, she met Aruhir, a young soldier-in-training. After he witnessed her thoroughly humiliate a man who made an unwanted pass at her, they became fast, inseparable friends.

As the War of the Ring loomed, Aruhir was sent to the frontlines at Osgiliath, while Meriloth was ordered North to record astronomical positions. After the war’s end, she returned to the White City only to be met with devastating news: Aruhir had fallen at Osgiliath, and his body was never recovered.

Refusing to accept his death without proof, Meriloth spent an agonizing year lighting a candle in her window every night. Eventually, the waiting becomes too much. Trading her delicate gowns for a traveler's cloak, the sheltered astronomer uses her unmatched knowledge of celestial navigation to embark on a desperate, sprawling journey into the East. Her quest leads her to discover that Aruhir was not killed, but taken captive by retreating enemy forces. Against all odds, the scholar becomes the savior, rescuing her battered knight from the dark and bringing him home.
